I just got wind that someone is trolling through Siler City, NC trying to buy peoples’ referrals for PC repair with a “give me 16 referrals, you get a free laptop” gimmick. There’s no accountability to that scheme and you could hurt YOUR reputation if you refer this person and they toast someone’s PC.
Think about that for a second: with a slight “cooking of the books” this person can easily avoid ever giving you that free laptop carrot-on-a-stick, so there’s really no risk in making this bogus offer. How CAN you prove that 16 referrals actually did business with this character? Are you actually willing to DO that due diligence?
And the worst part? When you make a referral to someone, you stake your own reputation on the other person’s integrity. Honestly, the entire thing sounds like a new take on the classic “free laptop” scam.
The people that reported this visit to me run a local business in Siler City, so I’m guessing that businesses are the prime target. Please tell me no one will fall for this.
